Ik word meter!

Ik mag meter worden van het eerste kindje van Jo en Marcin! Ik ben alvast in actie geschoten door een quiltje dat ik al lang aan het maken was eindelijk af te maken, want ik heb nu een waardige bestemmeling.

Zo krijg je een idee van de afmetingen, elk afgewerkt vierkantje is 7x7 cm.

 Het is altijd leuk om te zien hoe een platte lap stof tot leven komt door het quilten en wassen. Ik heb geen 'voor' foto's' getrokken, maar de 'na' foto's zijn toch mooi, niet?

De kleuren: blauw, in alle tinten en nuances, en toch ziet het er goed uit, door het spel van donker en licht.

 De stofje komen allemaal uit de restjes-dozen van mijn oma. Daardoor zitten er ook een stofje in waarvan Marieke een kleedje had (ze is er ondertussen uitgegroeid) en Pieter een hemdje, en een stof waarvan mijn mama een pyjama heeft.

Voor de voering gebruikte ik een stofje dat ik ooit kocht om 'iets' voor de badkamer te maken. Ik heb lang getwijfeld of ik niet iets feller zou gebruiken, maar ik ben blij met deze rustige achtergrond, ik vind het meer geschikt voor een klein babytje.

Ik hoop dat Jo het mooi vindt, en dat mijn metekindje zijn of haar dekentje koestert. Ik wacht nog tot na de geboorte om het te schenken, dan kan ik er de naam en geboortedatum op borduren.

Nakende verhuis.

De bouwwerken vorderen goed, ons huis wordt meer en meer een bouwwerf. Binnenkort kunnen de nieuwe ramen geplaatst worden, de elektriciteit in orde gezet en er kan worden geplakt. Maar dat betekent wel dat we zullen moeten verhuizen.

Een echte bouwwerf, en dan vind ik nu even de foto's van wat onze living was niet, onvoorstelbaar...

 Gelukkig zijn al onze spullen al gesorteerd, eigenlijk moeten we gewoon de hele inboedel van onze huidige woning, op ons eerste verdiep, verhuizen naar de studio. Die studio is zelfs iets groter dan onze woning nu, en er zit een terras en tuin aan. Willem en ik zijn zondag eens gaan kijken. Amai, wat een puinhoop. Er is al lang niet meer geschilderd, en er is recent n,ieuwe verwarming geïnstalleerd. Maar na een eerste schok zag ik ook wel dat er vooral geschilderd en gekuisd moet worden om het leefbaar te maken. Als we dan nog wat kapotte lampen vervangen, de douche vervangen, een kastje bouwen waar de inbouw-frigo zat en mooie gordijnen ophangen, dan wordt het een gezellig huisje. We hebben het opgemeten, om al eens te kijken waar onze meubels een plekje kunnen krijgen. Het zal wat meer gedoe zijn om de kinderen op school te krijgen, maar voor de vakantie zal het er aangenamer wonen zijn dan op onze werf.

Deze kreeg ik van de kindjes voor mijn verjaardag.

En waar we ook wonen, met een bloemtje in huis maak ik er altijd een thuis van!

Rooster Monroe

I earned a 12th place in the Spoonflower design competition this week! The topic was 'pop art chickens', and this is the design I entered.

In a repeat pattern, obviously. You can see what that looks like in my Spoonflower shop. I ordered a proof last week, so I'm expecting it to arrive next week. I wonder what it will look like on fabric, and what I'll make from my tiny swatch. But wouldn't it be lovely as a table cloth, an apron, or a tote?

Secateurs

I made a design for the gardening tools design contest at Spoonflower. I made a pen sketch of my own secateurs, took a photograph of it and got to work with Picasa, Paint and the Spoonflower-site. I'm quite pleased with the result and already made four colorways. Now I just have to order some proofs. I'm also going to order a color chart, so that I can get my colors right before printing. When I printed my 'creepy crawlies' fabric, I was disappointed that the red didn't come out bright enough, but I'm not sure what to do about it.With a fabric color chart, it should be a lot easier to get the right color code. Creepy crawlies - project

I finally made something from my creepy crawlies fabric,which I had printed at Spoonflower a while back. I was inspired by this tutorial for a kid's coloring book and crayons tutorial at 'Crazy Little Projects'. I just made a few adaptations, to fit the amount of fabric and my personal taste. I started with a large rectangle of 13" x 20 3/4", instead of the 14 1/2" x 22 1/2" in the tutorial, simply because I had to make do with the one fat quarter of printed fabric I had. As you can see on the pictures, I also changed the colors and sizes of the inside pockets, for the same reason.

Inside the carrier: 12 colored markers, and room for some more, two pencils, a rubber, some stickers, scissors and of course paper, or a coloring book.

I also included subdivisions in the shallow pocket on the coloring book side, so that I have separate pockets for scissors, stickers, rubber, pencils, and what not. And finally, I made a closure with a button (button still has to be attached, but the strap for it is already there) instead of Velcro.

Outside, ready to carry into the world. You can see the strap, and imagine the button I am going to attach to keep the carrier closed and neat.

Less visibly I also simplified the way I sewed the pockets onto the lining fabric, maybe one day I make a photo tutorial to show you my slightly adapted version of this 'crazy little project'. I had fun making it, it took just over an hour, and that's including digging for my scraps of fabric and taking along time deciding which fabric should go where. I hope my kids like the end result, but I'll have to wait to find out, because they are staying at their grandparent's this week, for the Easter holidays.
